Case Study

The Problem

There was also a desire to provide a continuum of care on the same campus where residents wouldn’t have to experience the stress of relocating elsewhere if their care needs increased.

One specific project challenge was finding the right solution for “Memory Care” residents in a campus setting. The entire project was not planned to be overwhelmingly large but the need to provide a serene environment was understood as essential to residents with Memory Care assistance needs.

The Solution

The project vision was of a vibrant continuum of care community campus that enhanced the quality of life for all residents, enabled independence and provided care in a comfortable and familiar environment.  The building was shaped to wrap large pockets of green space for healthy outdoor amenity areas.  The use of stone and earthy palette ties the building to the site.

The connection to nature and elegant rustic aesthetic carries throughout the interior.  Light filled rooms, spacious corridors, visual connections to the exterior and extended sightlines create a sense of openness.  A clear path of circulation and differentiated destinations enables easy way finding and memorable spatial experiences.

The Result

Wellness services include fitness rooms, Pharmacy, PT and Health Suite but overall, the sense of well-being and community comes from the friendly and energetic staff, varied opportunities for both independent and social time and an engaged resident population.

Independent Living residents have spacious apartments, lively community spaces and various dining options, all with connections to outdoor courts and patios.  The variety of spatial experiences for Assisted Living residents is equally broad, including patios shared within a large private courtyard.  Active social spaces, dining, and activity rooms are balanced by quiet common areas and comfortable resident rooms, many with direct access to the court.

Understanding that a serene environment was essential for Memory Care residents, four small houses, each with six private rooms flanking a large common space were included.  These were paired with each two sharing a pleasant and secure courtyard.
